The partnerships sees DigiHaul bolster its own sustainability credentials with Advanced Sustainability Accreditation.
DigiHaul Limited’s smart transport solution is perfectly designed to support its carriers and customers to achieve the carbon targets and environmental agendas they set. With sustainability as a core value to its business, DigiHaul is bolstering its green credentials having achieved Advanced Sustainability Accreditation with Mission Zero, the Quality Standard for the road fleet sector.
The logistics industry contributes to between 15-20% of carbon emissions in the UK each year. Part of DigiHaul’s long term sustainability strategy is to support the industry in finding ways to reduce that figure. Digihaul is a digital freight platform, with around 500 carriers on the platform and over 150 shippers (customers). By matching complimentary shipments, DigiHaul is reducing the number of empty miles run on UK roads by lorries, cutting down greatly on carbon emissions. Sustainability is also a great concern to many of DigiHaul’s customers as climate change becomes an ever-increasingly important topic of conversation in society.
“We were initially looking for a provider that offered a sustainability accreditation that we could promote to our carriers. Whilst liaising with Mission Zero to deliver this, we made the decision to become fully accredited ourselves so that we could lead by example and support our carriers and customers by having firsthand experience of the accreditation process,” comments Lucy Rodriguez – Environmental Lead, DigiHaul.
In addition to giving DigiHaul the confidence to recommend the Mission Zero Accreditation to its customers, participating in the scheme also reinforced that DigiHaul is on the right sustainability track with everything they are currently doing and plan to do in the future.
Commenting on DigiHaul’s experience of achieving the Mission Zero+ Advanced Sustainability Modules and the effect it has had on their business, Lucy Rodriguez says: “Despite only having grey fleet, we found the Mission Zero Accreditation a really useful experience, not least because it made us realise that, although DigiHaul itself doesn’t have any official drivers, there was still a lot we could do for all our employees who drive to and from work every day. It also allowed us to really focus on all our current processes and helped identify where we may have had some gaps or could improve these by adding a bit more detail.”
Reflecting on the relationship formed between DigiHaul and Mission Zero during the accreditation process, Lucy Rodriguez comments: “From the very first dialogue with Mission Zero, we have been really impressed with their proactiveness, their willingness to collaborate with SMEs from all industries and to listen to and consider different perspectives. We were offered lots of support when going through the audit process and everything was made clear and easy to follow from the start.”
Mission Zero provides a realistic framework for companies to achieve a long-term sustainable transport operation. In addition to key sustainability elements around vehicles, fuels, and emissions, the Mission Zero Standard and the Mission Zero+ Advanced Sustainability Modules incorporate additional sustainability requirements covering areas such as the reduction of single use plastics, energy efficient devices, health & wellbeing, equality & diversity, the gender pay gap, and much more. It ensures a more comprehensive accreditation that also helps the fleet industry to meet United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Mission Zero+ Advanced Sustainability modules bolster the Mission Zero Gold and Road Risk modules (both recognised by Transport for London, CLOCS and HS2 as equivalent to FORS Silver and FORS Gold),
Nick Caesari, CEO, Mission Zero comments: “Mission Zero is determined to help any size of organisation. Even companies with a small grey fleet can benefit from a sustainable framework. We are delighted that DigiHaul recognises the value of a Mission Zero Accreditation, especially considering that their business is built on technology that encourages shippers and carriers to be more environmentally conscious. We thank DigiHaul for their continued support and look forward to supporting their customers to achieve their own accreditations.”
