There are five Key Management Areas (KMA) within the Mission Zero Quality Standard. Each KMA is required to have a policy and supporting procedures that includes the sub demonstrations within each KMA.

1/ MANAGING THE OPERATION
Managing operational safety and performance to achieve Mission Zero through organisational policies and supporting documentation.
Commitment to the Mission Zero roadmap towards the vision of zero collisions, zero emissions and zero prohibitions, health and safety, Operator Licence undertakings and other regulatory licencing criteria:

» Periodic quality management audits

» Fatigue managed through drivers’ hours and Working Time Directive (WTD).
3/ MANAGING STAFF
Ensuring drivers are fit for the road and have the right attitude and ensuring fleet related staff are competent in their role.
Managing staff who drive for work and achieving a sustained change in driver behaviour:
- » Trained, qualified and competent management staff
- » Correctly licenced, trained, qualified and competent
- » Medically fit and not distracted or impaired
- » Managing fleet related staff to ensure they are competent and complete sufficient CPD.
4/ MANAGING VEHICLES
Ensuring vehicles are fit for the road, well maintained and suitable for the task.
Managing vehicles, equipment and trailers to ensure safe operating standards:
- » Roadworthy, serviced and safety inspected
- » Loads and passengers carried safely
- » Consideration of safest and environmentally cleanest vehicle types
- » Vehicle suitability including payloads, weights, and dimensions
- » Load and equipment distribution, security, and safety.

Ensuring activities on the roads are conducted safely and efficiently.
